Confederation Park

The park features the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument, the Spanish Civil War Monument, and the Peacekeeping Monument honouring Canadian peacekeepers. A prominent fountain anchors the centre of the park. Each monument includes interpretive plaques with historical context.

Major events include Winterlude in February (ice sculptures and family activities), Canada Day celebrations on July 1, the Christmas Lights Across Canada opening ceremony in December, and various cultural festivals throughout summer. The park serves as one of Ottawa’s primary civic gathering spaces.

Excellent. The park is a 5-minute walk from Parliament Hill, 3 minutes from the Rideau Canal locks, and 8 minutes from the Byward Market. The National Arts Centre is directly adjacent. It’s an ideal orientation stop before heading in any direction.

No dedicated parking lot. The closest option is the World Exchange Plaza underground garage on Queen Street (5-minute walk). Metered street parking is available on Elgin Street but limited during peak hours. A rideshare from Adam’s Airport Inn takes about 20 minutes.

Confederation Park is approximately 13 km from Ottawa International Airport (YOW). From Adam’s Airport Inn (7 minutes from the terminal), drive north via the Airport Parkway to Elgin Street — about 20 minutes depending on traffic. The park is on Elgin Street between Laurier Avenue and the Rideau Canal.
