Boreal River

Boreal River runs guided kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and rafting trips on the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal. Options range from 2-hour downtown paddles to full-day wilderness excursions. They also offer multi-day canoe camping trips for more adventurous guests.

No prior experience required. Guides provide full instruction before every trip, and all equipment (paddles, life jackets, dry bags) is included. Beginner-friendly options on calm sections of the Rideau Canal are available, as well as intermediate and advanced river routes for experienced paddlers.

The paddling season runs from May through October, weather dependent. Peak season is June through August when water temperatures are warmest. Yes. Family-friendly guided tours are available for children aged 6 and up. The calm-water Rideau Canal tours are best for younger children, while the Ottawa River trips suit families with teenagers. All participants are fitted with properly sized life jackets, and guides maintain low participant-to-guide ratios.

Boreal River’s meeting point is at 78 George Street in downtown Ottawa, approximately 13 km from Ottawa International Airport (YOW). From Adam’s Airport Inn (7 minutes from the terminal), drive about 20 minutes via the Airport Parkway to downtown. Street parking and nearby garages available.
